Welcome to the Year of Voluminous Hair and…yep, Rollers! (Thanks to TikTok)
There’s something nostalgic about the continued return of voluminous hair in 2022; about watching people take the time to put energy and effort into a hairstyle that makes them feel really glamorous.
It’s all about long ‘90s-era layers styled to look bouncy and fresh – an uber-fashionable hair trend that’s sweeping across Instagram and Tik Tok!
Our ELEVEN Australia Co-creative Director Joey Scandizzo says this is the most popular hairstyle request in the salon at the moment. And apparently, all you need to recreate this look at home is your blow-dryer, a round brush, a volumising foam, hairspray and some rollers!
Joey is a fan of velcro rollers rather than a hot roller option to achieve this look.
To start, he preps damp hair with ELEVEN Australia I WANT BODY VOLUME FOAM (a lightweight volumiser that thickens hair strands without weighing them down), and after blowdrying each section with a hairdryer and the ELEVEN Australia (magnesium barrel) ROUND BRUSH, he rolls the hair up (place the roller on top of the hair section so you can get it all the way to the base of your hair, on scalp), then he lets the hair cool down to set.
He then sprays the hair liberally with ELEVEN Australia GIVE ME HOLD FLEXIBLE HAIRSPRAY to keep the style in place. Once the style is set, he removes the rollers and breaks up the hair with his fingers or an ELEVEN Australia WIDE TOOTH COMB for that big, bouncy, glamorous finish that lasts!
Note:
For anyone with very fine, limp hair, Joey’s tip is prepping hair first by using I WANT BODY VOLUME SHAMPOO and I WANT BODY VOLUME CONDITIONER
It’s worthwhile noting that the size of each roller matters, as well as your placement. “You need to choose the roller size appropriate for the style you’re trying to achieve,” Scandizzo says. “Smaller rollers for shorter hairstyles and larger rollers for longer hairstyles.” Once you’ve chosen the right size, it’s time to place them by rolling them all the way up the hair to rest at the root. You should always section the hair so it is the same size as the roller and choose a roller that your hair will wrap around 2 ½ times for the best hold. The more rotations the more curl!”
